Poo In the Kingdom

Queen Olivia“… wash me, and I will be whiter than snow.”  (Psalm 51:7)

Meet Queen Olivia.  She is our sweet little bichon frise,  enjoying her senior years with us.  You might say that we are all growing old together.  She’s thirteen now,  but on most days has the energy of a puppy.  Since she joined us, several years ago, she has enjoyed her reign,  being given all the royal treatment she so deserves,  and has come to expect.  She spends much time on her “sofa throne.”   A  step of two sturdy, square pillows in front of the sofa eases her access to the throne which is made of a two stacked pillows topped with a soft folded blanket, and placed on the end of the sofa.  It’s actually just where we happen to keep these items, but trust me, it’s her throne.  This places her little body at a height where she can see out the window and observe a panoramic view of her kingdom.  If her throne has been disrupted,  she is perfectly capable of putting it back in place, pulling, pushing rearranging the pillows and blankets into their perfect position.

Yesterday was a good day in Olivia’s kingdom. A pooch of her position must care about her appearance. Thus, her personal spa attendant visits the castle once a month to give her an enjoyable bath and grooming. Yesterday was that day.  When she is done, she usually  parades  proudly back to the castle,  white as snow,  sporting a colorful bandanna around her little neck.  Taking her place back on the throne,  there is great peace in her kingdom!

But inevitably, nature will call.  She will make it known to one of her servants that the time has come to “take a stroll.”  Off she goes, strutting and showing off her fresh “new do” and classy bandana until…  sniff, sniff, sniff …  “What’s that?  Hmmm …” . . .Sniff, sniff …“YEEESSS!   It’s  dog  poo!  Yahoo!!!”  She must roll in it.  This royal queen doesn’t even care who’s watching.  There’s just something about poo!  She must wear it’s scent.  Yes, she must roll in it!   No stern warnings,  no angry shouts,  no offer of tasty treats can stop her.  She’s totally into it now, happily twisting her back and waving her paws in delight!   Her beautiful, sweet smelling,  white as snow coat is, in no time, covered in stinky dog poo.   When she’s finally pulled away,  with great dignity, she just struts her royal self back to the castle, prouder than ever.  Do these lapses in judgement bring an end to the kingdom?  No.  The Kingdom has an ample supply of soap and water,  and a Chanel #5 knock-off., if needed.  She will still reign, and there will be peace in her kingdom again.   And in ours.

What about us? Can I be less than delicate here?  Haven’t we all rolled in a little “dog poo” at some time in our lives?  Paul reminds us in Romans 3:23, that  “…all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  Just as for Queen Olivia,  there is cleansing available for our sins.

“Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson,  they shall be like wool.” (Isaiah 1:18)  “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

Praise God for these amazing promises of forgiveness and cleansing.  Rejoice that,  “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace…”  (Ephesians 1:7)  Glory in the truth that, washed in the blood of Lamb, and whiter than snow,  we will one day  reside forever in His glorious Kingdom!   What a day that will be!

That’s the view from here!
